Zach Ertz
There is no doubt about the future of wide receiver Zach Ertz. The Philadelphia Eagles drafted Ertz in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He was traded to the Arizona Cardinals in a trade during the 2021 season for a 2022 fifth-round pick and CB Tay Gowan. As of the end of the season, Ertz has 88 receptions for 916 yards and four touchdowns. He was ranked 85th on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2020, and is a prime candidate to continue his success.
As a rookie, Ertz is expected to be the No. 1 tight end in the Arizona Cardinals’ roster. Despite being a rookie, Ertz is expected to be a starter for several years, as Trey McBride will push him. Ertz’s route-running ability, his ability to block blocks and his age should allow him to continue a productive career for years to come.
Trey McBride
The first pick of the NFL Draft, McBride is an elite pass-catcher who can produce big numbers with limited touches. His college stats led all tight ends with ninety receptions and 1,121 yards. He won the John Mackey Award in 2021 and should be a valuable addition to the Arizona offense. As a rookie, McBride is expected to be a high volume target and could complement the Cardinals’ other talented tight ends.
He’ll likely not start on the offensive line in the Cardinals’ base offense, but he will serve as a reliable backup. In a base offense, the Cardinals will likely stick to an 11-personnel set. McBride’s versatility and growth as a blocker will make him a valuable commodity in the fantasy football world. With Williams still recovering from his injury, McBride will have a significant role on the Arizona Cardinals’ roster.
Zach McSorley
After signing with the Arizona Cardinals in late November, Trace McSorley will provide depth at the quarterback position. With Kyler Murray out with an ankle injury, the Cardinals are without a starter at the moment, and McSorley will add that depth. With Kyler Murray out of the picture, McSorley will be able to compete for the starting QB spot.
Despite not having played a snap in his rookie season, McSorley has been a high draft pick. The Ravens selected him in the sixth round of the 2019 draft, and he was inactive in two games. Kyler Murray
The Arizona Cardinals are confident enough to sign Kyler Murray to a four-year, $96 million contract. The rookie quarterback set several franchise records during his rookie season, and he was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Murray was also selected to two straight Pro Bowls, a distinction he’s not likely to ever be denied. He also led the Cardinals to the playoffs in 2021.
The storyline surrounding Murray’s contract took some odd turns in the offseason, but it ultimately turned out to be a good one for the Arizona Cardinals. While Murray’s agent gave mixed signals, general manager Steve Keim said in late May that he thought the contract could be done by July 26, which is the start of training camp. He said he wanted to get the deal done before the veteran players report to camp on July 26. The Cardinals were already down a few key players in free agency, and then lost star receiver DeAndre Hopkins to a six-game suspension for using performance-enhancing drugs.
Robert Alford
Several factors make Robert Alford an attractive pick for the Arizona Cardinals in free agency. He played in 13 games last season and tallied 37 tackles, four pass defended, and one interception. Alford’s injury history is not new. The veteran cornerback ended his last season on injured reserve. He missed the entire 2020 and 2019 seasons. The Cardinals are expected to add an experienced cornerback, so Robert Alford could fit that role.
